No investment is smarter than the one that you make in yourself. As long as the geopolitical scenario remains hazy, one mustn’t be fooled into thinking that things will return to what they were like in a short matter of time. The future has never been this uncertain.
In the philosophy and practice of yoga, I learned that a good warrior is one who knows when to withdraw oneself. Given that everything in nature has a cycle, there is always a time to contract and a time to expand. Never has it been more necessary to learn to stay silent and observe.
Given that a new scenario will emerge, I would like to share some financial advice that can help you along your path:
- Invest in yourself. We tend to trust others more than we trust ourselves. But the investments made in ourselves are carried forever. Knowledge, experiences and genuine relationships give us the basis and strength to be who we are. Also, don’t forget to keep your emotions under control. Emotionally unstable people tend to be more financially dependent.
- Eliminate your debts. Renegotiate them. They can be energy drainers that are incompatible with your current moment.
- Think about your savings. Observe your consumption pattern and don’t forget to keep at least six months of cash on hand for emergencies. In times like these, I recommend expanding this period to twelve months. Note that I am encouraging you, not to accumulate money, but to be in a more favorable position in the face of a possible change of course.
- Localization versus globalization. The stronger your core is, the more secure you will feel. In a globalized world, don’t forget about the strength contained in your local network.
- Creation versus consumption. Here is something I like to talk about. In a world where consumption is over-stimulated, one who is not creative not only becomes dependent, but develops a sense of restlessness. Be creative. The important thing is to try to be as sustainable as possible.
- Invest in a way that is both solid and sustainable. Don’t forget about the difference between price and value. Land, community, people, gifts and skills can generate immeasurable value.
- Donate. Share. Help others. Always remember the flow of giving and receiving. Those who just want grab things for themselves will end up drowning in a sea of scarcity. Allow your higher purpose to guide you.
- Surf the wave of the digital world. When in doubt about opening a business, get a sense of the tide and determine whether it’s coming in or going out. The surfer who swims against the current will not move an inch.
I feel that our present moment still calls for introspection and a lot of observation. I also realize that we are being given an opportunity to reconnect with who we are and to rethink our values. Remember that money exists to set us free, not to imprison us. The lighter our luggage is, the easier and healthier our journey will be.
